What to do on a Winter's Day

Kids love to make cookies. From mixing the ingredients, to rolling out the dough and decorating their creations, it's a fun way to let them get creative and enjoy a winter's day. Clear the table, fill it with everything they'll need (bowls, ingredients, cookie cutters and lots and lots of icing and sprinkles), and worry about cleaning up the mess later!
The most basic sugar cookie dough recipes seem to work the best. We've been using Betty Crocker's recipe since I was a kid. Why mess with tradition? You can make the dough ahead, chill and have it ready to go, or (and this is an even easier go to), you can purchase pre-made sugar cookie dough at any grocery store and let them roll it out and decorate away!
Now, What To Do With All Those Cookies...

A cookie exchange is a great tradition to start or continue each year. We always make our 5 go-to recipes, placing each type of cookie on a platter with an identifying label and a stack of pre-printed recipe cards in front, arranged on a large table. Each guest brings their favorite holiday cookie to exchange, along with their recipe printed out to add to the "cookie table." On a separate table, put out some appetizers, snacks and drinks. Make the mood merry with a holiday play list going, and enjoy time with family and friends, with the opportunity to take home some new recipes. Make sure everyone is given a box or little to go plate with a wrap to take their cookies home.
We've put together a little Grand Holiday Kids playlist. Enjoy!!
